Primary Care Optometry

Optometrists are the heroes of primary eye care

For many people, an optometrist is the first point of contact into the healthcare system. The eyes can offer a window into overall health, and thus this first touch point can be critical for patients getting the care they need for serious conditions. We don’t take that responsibility lightly, which is why National Vision and all independent practices empower ODs to provide the highest quality of care.

Modes of Practice Available

Whether you're interested in an employment position where your sole focus is patient care, or a sublease holder opportunity where you run your own practice, we support options that fit your lifestyle best.

Employment: In-Office

Our network is made up of more than 1,200 offices nationwide, including states where ODs are employed by National Vision or nearly 30 affiliated independent practices. Offices are located inside or adjacent to a National Vision store.

Career Pathways

Opportunities Outside of the Exam Lane

Optometrists in our network are great at what they do, but we also recognize they may have other professional goals. The independent practices offer leadership opportunities such as Area Doctor positions, and National Vision supports career ambitions via opportunities for advancement beyond the exam lane, including the Clinical Advisory Panel, the Ambassador program and other leadership roles.

Optometrists Are the Heart of What We Do

Doctors play a vital role in making our mission possible, which is why we work hard to create an environment where they feel supported and empowered to focus solely on vision care.
